Leila Hessini

Leila Hessini is a pan-African strategist and transnational feminist leader with over thirty years working at the intersections of organizing, research, advocacy and philanthropy. Born in Algeria, Leila has lived and worked in over forty countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the United States. Leila currently works as a senior strategist with philanthropic foundations, feminist funds, social justice movements and women’s rights organizations across Africa and the Middle East to advance social justice and rights-based resourcing and movement strategies. She holds an MPH in Public Health and an MA in Middle East and North African studies from the University of Michigan, studied Islamic and family Law at the Mohammed V University in Rabat and pursued doctoral studies at L’Ecole des Hautes Etudes in Sciences Sociales in Paris. Leila is the mother of two feminist young women and is an avid swimmer, scuba diver, hiker, and nature enthusiast.
