This particular costume was not randomly chosen: it is indeed the outfit worn by some female characters in the “Handmaid’s Tale”. This dystopia describes a future in which men dominate society, and where women, endangered, are used to repopulate the state. This is not the first time women have worn this outfit as it has become a symbol of freedom and women’s rights.
