Italy Rejects ‘Aquarius’ Rescue Boat with 600 Migrants

Today, June 11, the Spanish government announced that Spain was ready to take over the humanitarian ship ‘Aquarius’. Since Sunday, the rescue ship of the French association ‘SOS-Mediterranean’ was unable to find a port to land 629 migrants collected at sea, including 123 unaccompanied minors, 11 young children, and 6 pregnant women. Italy’s new minister, Matteo Salvini, denied access to the ports on the peninsula and since then, the ship is stuck on the high seas. ‘Aquarius’ is on overcapacity of at least one hundred people, stuck in international waters between Italy and Malta. Aboard, migrants of 26 nationalities are dehydrated and in hypothermia
