In Spain, protests occurred after five men accused of rape got convicted of a lesser crime. “Wolf Pack” is the name given to the men who have raped an 18-year-old girl during Pamplona’s bulls festival in Spain, back in 2016. The court rendered that the predators will only get a sentence of 9 years under sexual abuse instead of the 20 years sanction required by the accusation. After the outrageous court’s decision, thousands of people demonstrated, pressuring the Ministry of Justice, denouncing the lesser sanction given to the rapists. Initially, all five men were accused of “gang rape” which is a more serious crime than “sexual abuse”. Under Spanish law, the lesser offense of sexual abuse differs from rape in that it does not involve violence or intimidation. This is not abuse, this is rape.
