The UN has failed to agree on the issue of chemical weapons in Syria. Both projects to extend the mandate were rejected during a heated meeting in the Security Council. Russia vetoed a resolution tabled by the United States on Thursday, November 16. The resolution consisted of renewing the mandate fighting the use of chemical weapons in Syria. This is the tenth time Moscow has used this right in the UN Security Council to block international action in Syria, since the beginning of the conflict in 2011.
