The Green March المسيرة الخضراء is a great peaceful march from Morocco to the Sahara, then colonised by Spain and now disputed with the Polisario Front. On November 6, 1975, Moroccan King Hassan II launched it for the purpose of recovering the territory, historically linked to Morocco and as part of the Moroccan Sahara. About 350,000 Moroccans took part of this march, all holding Moroccan flags, and Qur’ans.
The March was followed by an advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice issued at the request of Hassan II, recognizing the ties of allegiance he had mentioned. Today is a national holiday in Morocco.
